• Lack of space combined with increasing paper storage was pushing Bath
Ales to move their micro-brewery
• Scanning and electronic storage of documents frees up vital space by
removal of filing cabinets
Bath Ales are an independent micro-brewery established in 1995. The founders all come from a brewing background and have combined a complementary range of skills with a shared passion for real ale. Never a company to stand still, they've grown steadily and the brewery is now complemented by a new bottling plant and brewery shop. Bath Ales also have an estate of pubs Bath Ales administered from the Brewery offices. On a daily basis this generates a vast amount of paperwork and the open plan office was certainly feeling the strain.
The requirement to keep a growing number of order and delivery documents meant that Bath Ales would soon run out of space on their site and relocation would be necessary. To move all the specialist brewing equipment and boiler would be difficult and expensive, even assuming a suitable site could be found in the area.
A different approach was taken to reduce their storage requirements instead.
This included looking at electronic document storage. Ascot Solutions’ Rick Crowley was able to offer them a solution in the form of a File Stream
Document Management System combined with a Fujitsu document scanner. This system has saved Bath Ales many thousands of pounds and avoided a disruptive move of their operations. Rick says “File Stream is quick and easy to use so Bath Ales were up and running as soon as the system was installed.”
File Stream Technical Manager Paul Day says “Not only will Bath Ales be able to free up a lot of valuable space but they will also have to spend less time filing and retrieving everyday documents.”
