A Collaborative, Non-Technical Process Designer. The Metastorm Designer is a graphical environment that lets non-technical business users design a process – creating form layouts and business rules, defining user roles and actions, and mapping process stages and pathways. The Metastorm Modeller is the only process design and modelling tool on the market that combines:

Intelligent Process Aware Forms. Metastorm BPM extracts information from databases, displays it on forms, and controls the data that users see based on their roles and level of authority. Users have several options for creating and using forms: they can use Metastorm BPM to design and deploy forms on multiple platforms; HTML forms can be designed in an HTML application; or PDF forms can be designed in Adobe Acrobat and imported into Metastorm BPM. The data presented on forms is kept distinct from the interface so that it is clear which actions a user can take to advance a work item to the next stage of the process. This leads to a simpler user environment and easier maintenance of the procedure.

Easy, Point & Click Integration. Metastorm e-Work allows business users to define integration using intuitive Integration Wizards that provides simple ‘fill in the form’ screens to build integration to databases, email, Web Services and other applications - without knowledge of scripting or programming languages.

Custom Roles-based Interfaces. Metastorm e-Work has an extremely powerful Dynamic Enterprise Roles facility, allowing user roles to be evaluated based on data from multiple channels, such as a process, a database, a business rules engine, web services or a directory - all in real time. These roles provide a comprehensive security matrix that determines who can initiate a process, view a folder, access a form, or take an action. When these powerful, dynamic roles are combined with Metastorm’s unique user actions, you have complete control - actions can be made available only to users with the correct authority level, or in the correct department, or only if the correct approvals have been given.

Web Services. Metastorm BPM takes advantage of Web Services standards such as XML, WSDL and SOAP to allow Metastorm BPM processes to both consume Web Services and to be exposed as Web Services that are consumed by other applications. Straightforward User Experience. A simple user experience is essential to the success of a BPM deployment that delivers Enterprise Process Advantage. Metastorm e-Work provides a single integrated client that satisfies all of the roles that a user may play in different processes.

Each user has their own To Do list, where items arrive if a user is responsible for taking an action to move it to the next stage in a process. Next they have a Watch list, unique to Metastorm e-Work, so that they can monitor items that are “in-progress” and determine their current status. Users with appropriate authority can also undertake process administrative functions through the same client and generate reports of the performance of processes so that they can identify bottlenecks and performance issues. Simulation data can be entered manually, or after the process has been running for a while, be extracted from the Metastorm BPM history database.
